ASC members compete in OK Worlds
Jane Mitchell, Friday, 29 January 2010
Two Adelaide Sailing Club members, Mark Roberts and Brent Williams, will be competing in the 2010 OK Dinghy World Championships in Wellington NZ during the first two weeks of February.
Both Mark and Brent will be competing in the warm up regatta, the NZ and Interdominion Championships (9 races), and the World Championship (10 races plus an invitation race) in the notoriously "windy Wellington" which will no doubt test their fitness and skills.
Mark is new to OK Dinghy sailing and has been practicing hard since taking delivery of his new boat last Winter. He was attracted to the class for its strong fleets, both in Australia and internationally, and will no doubt relish the expected strong winds in Wellington.
Brent has recently returned to sailing OK Dinghys after a break of some 24 years, having last competed in a World Championship in Denmark in 1984. Amazingly some of the sailors from that time are still sailing in the class and will be competing in Wellington.
Both Mark and Brent will be using sails made by John Clifton, having proved them competitive in the recent Australian Championships in Melbourne where Mark placed 12th and Brent 9th.
Follow their progress on the regatta website.
