Reminder - Sailors Briefing 4.00pm this Saturday-All sailors are encouraged to attend, it is important that all classes sailing at ASC are represented.

Looking at the forecast for Saturday and considering the likelihood of the boat launch facilities being open racing looks unlikely again this week.

The sailors briefing will go ahead as planned at 4.00pm.

An  agenda for the meeting and a decision on racing will be emailed to members on Friday.

Junior Parents SDG meeting Wednesday 20th September 7.00pm

The Committee of management will host a Sailing Development Group meeting on Wednesday the 20th September at 7.00pm in the Sunny South room.  We encourage all junior parents and any other interested members to attend.

This will be an opportunity to have your say and provide feedback to help improve what we deliver for our junior members.

The SDG group has operated a very successful junior programme for a number of seasons and provides many benefits for our junior members and their families.

A big thankyou to Colin Gordon who chaired this committee last season unfortunately due to other commitments Colin has stepped down as chairperson of the group.

We need your help

We need four or five people to meet once a month to organise and co-ordinate our junior program. It’s not difficult and lots of parents are prepared to help out. If you are interested but not sure what is involved don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Unfortunately due to closure of the launching ramps ASC will not be able to launch race management boats for day one of the ASC HOT UP series this Saturday.

Dear All,

The West Beach Boat Launch will remain closed until Thursday, 7 September while seagrass is removed from around the ramps and in the channel.

The dredging operation has been successful, and a huge amount of seagrass has been removed from land and in the harbour.

We are expecting another storm front to arrive on Saturday evening, which will bring several days of strong wind that could force more seagrass into the harbour.  If that happens, we want to be prepared to be able to remove it as quickly as possible.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure have issued a Notice to Mariners No 17 of 2017, advising boat users to use caution.

Alternative boat launching facilities are available at O’Sullivan’s Beach or North Haven.

Kind regards,

Melissa Coppi | Contracts & Leasing Manager

Your membership questions answered

Dear Members,

With the introduction of our new Membership Portal, the Board and the Committee have been paying close attention to your views and suggestions about the new membership categories, and their associated registration and payment processes, newly evident as you engage with this Portal initiative.

We thank all members who have been talking with us about the Portal. There have been many positive comments received. There have been a few queries as well, so please note our consideration of these queries below.

Firstly there have been some enquiries from existing social members such as the Thursday night group of cyclists who regularly visit our club as well as some interstate and elderly members who wish to stay in contact, receive newsletters, club information and enjoy the benefits provided by club membership. These members may apply to the club for a waiver of the $50.00 maintenance Levy. Please email   if you feel that your circumstances justify this.

Secondly, one or two queries about the parents of junior sailors being asked to pay a membership fee have been received. This matter has been discussed in great detail by the Board with the following points carefully considered.

All parents are encouraged to become involved with their children’s sailing on and off the water and we believe this results in a strong junior programme and member retention. For parents involved in these activities ASC membership will provide personal accident insurance. Follow this link for details.

ASC has a duty of care to all of its members and is committed to providing a Child Safe Environment for our junior members. We take the safety and well being of our members seriously and require that the parents of junior members abide by our code of conduct and child safe requirements as set out in our Member Protection Policy.

We strongly encourage parents of juniors to become a voting members, the requirement is that one parent of a junior member is required to become an ASC member of any membership category.

Call for a Tell Tales editor

Our conscientious editor of Tell Tales, Candi Hinks, has advised that she needs to stand down due to family reasons. Candi has done a fantastic job, providing our club with a regular high quality newsletter which is always full of interesting information about our club and its members. Thank you very much Candi.

Of course, that leaves an opening for someone else to take on this interesting and rewarding role.

Please contact one of the Committee or Board members or email if you are interested.

Working Bee - Thankyou

A big thank you goes to all the members who were able to attend the recent Working Bee.Lots of hands made the tasks easier and we were able to complete the clean-up of the Hardstand as well as some other smaller tasks.

It was fantastic to see so many members turn up in support of your club, the wild weather held off allowing enough time to successfully complete some important maintenance.

Your efforts were really appreciated.

Committee of Management

2017-18 Membership and boat storage fees now due

It is that time of the year again when we invite you to renew your ASC membership for the 2017|2018 season. Membership and boat storage payments are now due.

As you would be aware ASC has gone through a few changes over the past year and one of these changes involves the way our membership renewal process will be delivered. Your Board and Committee have determined that the most functional and effective way to manage our membership records is to bring our membership system fully online. This will not only streamline your membership renewal process, but will provide efficiencies in the management of our membership records.

For those members who prefer, there will be a facility to pay in person at the club on Saturday 5th August from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Logging on to the new online portal will enable members to perform the following actions: renew their membership, select their membership category; update their contact details; renew their boat storage or apply for boat storage.  In addition members will be presented with the opportunity to make a tax-free donation to the club via the Australian Sports Foundation.

This new system will undoubtedly bring with it a change to how we do things, but we believe this is a positive change, one that will provide our Club with more accurate data regarding our membership demographic and will help us to collate necessary information more accurately and effectively.

There have also been a few changes to the membership categories, and other options have been included:

  • A temporary membership category has been introduced for those who require membership for a regatta or special event.
  • Sailing and non-sailing Family categories are now available.
  • Dinghy, Container and Hardstand boat storage fee payments and applications will now be made online. Members with existing spaces will automatically have them renewed if the fee is paid by the due date of 31st August. Members who apply and pay for a storage space will be allocated a space, via email, on a first come first served basis (limited spaces available so get in early). If we are unable to provide a space a full refund will be made.
  • A $50 Maintenance Levy has been introduced for some sailing categories. This fee will be waived for those who volunteer in some capacity. Tick the appropriate box to indicate whether you wish to pay the levy or to make a contribution by volunteering.
  • Junior Membership is now only available if a parent or guardian is a paid-up member of any category.
  • We have added an option to make a Voluntary tax deductable donation to the Adelaide Sailing Club Foundation. All donations will be used for upgrading and replacing race management and sailing equipment.
  • In preparation for changes to our hospitality operation Social Membership has been discontinued, however, we encourage our existing social members to upgrade to the revised category of Club Supporter/Volunteer. (The club is in the process of negotiating with potential new operators for our hospitality operations with the aim of introducing a loyalty or discount program for ASC members.)
