Message from the Commodore
Wendy Carter, Monday, 28 May 2012 Message from the Commodore
ASK NOT WHAT YOUR CLUB CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CLUB!
As we near the end of the season, it is time to consider what form the club will take in the future.
The most pressing consideration is who will stand for the major roles in the club of Board members, Flag officers and Committee of Management.
The people filling these roles are the voice of the membership in all the policy and functional matters of the club. They determine and lead the
various groups within our organisation that make the club actually happen, from Sailing Development group, Race Management and Rescue craft maintenance, Social activities and more, as well as recommending what the club might invest in and develop in the future. The Committee’s role is described in the constitution thus:
8.10 Duties of the Committee of Management:-
Until and unless determined otherwise by the Board, the Committee has the following responsibilities, and is delegated (non exclusively) such powers and authority as may be required or incidental to give effect to and discharge these responsibilities:
· May spend up to (sum defined by Board) from its budget set by the Board for the Committee
· All sailing matters of the Club.
· Convene at least one meeting of the sailing members of the Club each year.
· Maintenance of and Management of all Club boats.
· All Social activities for members.
· Organise Training and Coaching (through Sail Training and Coaching Committee.) (SDG)
· Other duties as determined by the Board.
I urge all members to consider being a part of this group and join in the business of making our club exactly what we want it to be.
After three years as your Commodore, I have chosen to take a break and hopefully return to the race course as a competitor. It has been an enjoyable and challenging experience and I will assist our new Commodore in whatever way I can.
In addition, I urge all members to attend the AGM on the 25th June.
